HFT has been closely involved with the Fuyao Glass plant in Mt. Zion, Illinois, formerly the PPG Industries Glass Plant, since the facility’s original float line construction in the early 1980s. Over the decades, HFT has supported the facility through design, procurement, construction, start-up, maintenance and operations.
From 2014 to 2016, HFT’s engineering, procurement and construction teams completed a major EPC redesign and rebuild of the plant’s two float glass lines. The project encompassed project management, scheduling, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up.
Scope of Services
Engineering + Design
Detailed engineering for building and foundation modifications, batch storage and mixing systems, furnace and bath systems, annealing lehr, cutting line, electrical infrastructure and furnace environmental systems.
Program Management + Planning
Project management, scheduling and permitting support throughout the redesign and rebuild of the plant’s two float glass lines.
Procurement
Procurement supporting the comprehensive EPC redesign and rebuild of both float glass lines.
Construction
Construction and installation associated with building and foundation modifications; furnace and bath steel, refractory, piping, mechanical, ductwork and electrical systems; annealing lehr; cutting line; and electrical and environmental system modifications.
Technical Services + Support
Commissioning of HFT-installed equipment, furnace, bath and lehr heat-up support, start-up and process operational support.
