Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for performing advanced electrical design and analysis work as directed to support various projects.

 

Essential Functions

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to evaluating electrical power systems.
  • Works on assigned projects.
  • Performs moderate design tasks.
  • Coordinates tasks and work with entry level engineers, designers, or administrative staff.
  • Mentors entry level engineers and subordinates.
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Prepares portions of project documents.
  • Develops, generates, and edits specifications and procedures.
  • Performs site walks and attends kick off meeting with customers.
  • Receives instruction on specific objectives.
  • Provides a thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Assists with PM, client, customer contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Has and exhibits a “can do” attitude.
  • 5+ years related engineering experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD© and National Electric Code (NFPA-70).
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
  • Works with minimum supervision.
  • Has minimal management responsibilities.
  • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
  • Provides electrical guidance when required.
  • Field travel will be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Experience in process control automation would be very desirable.

 

Discipline Specific

  • Assesses customer project power requirements then designs a cost-effective power system to reflect the assessed need.
  • Provides customer guidance during all phases of the project.
  • Experienced with medium voltage and low voltage design.
  • Solar power design is also desirable.
  • Performs calculations, i.e., voltage drop, current in-rush, ground resistance, tray and conduit fill, conduit and cable sizing, etc.
  • Develop and generate:  Equipment Load Lists, Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Cable Schedules, Tray and Conduit Schedules, Interconnect Diagrams, Equipment Layout drawings with respect to NEC clearance requirements, etc.
  • Performs grounding studies, lightning studies (NFPA-780)
  • Design a protective relaying scheme to control the mains and branch circuit breakers of any switchgear.  Generate relay settings to provide the best protection scheme.
  • Has a working knowledge of National Electric Code (NFPA-70).
  • Has experience with power system modeling software, E-Tap©, Easy Power©, SKM©
  • Evaluate power system for Arc Flash hazards.
  • Direct data collection for power system studies.
  • Prepare selective coordination reports for power systems.
  • Prepare detailed electrical designs for plant facilities.
  • Design electrical room layouts that show the location of electrical equipment inside buildings and rooms that meet the requirements of the national electric (NEC) code and local fire codes as applicable.
  • Provide guidance, in office and on-site, during construction.
  • Remains current with next generation equipment, trends, and procedures.
  • Is a resource for others.
